Blogging Pet Peeves | Pods, Followers and More
Hey my lovelies so i don’t even know how this post is going to turn out or if it will even make any sense at all. So for the past few months i’ve had a few bug bares with blogging and the community, now don’t get me wrong i LOVE blogging always have and hopefully always will. However there are a few things that have always got my back up or things that have happened and i just wanted to share with you all in hopes that i’m not alone.
I’ve gotten to that point in life where i’m done with drama and done with following the crowd and i finally feel like i’m coming into my own and the same goes for my blog. Since starting a year ago i’m now at a point where i know what type of blogger and am and what i want to continue to be. Blah, blah, blah aside here’s my thoughts…
So something that i’m now coming to realise is that i don’t want to follow someone on social media just because they followed me. I’ve always followed people back to be polite but now my social media is full of people who don’t fit my interest or blogging niche. Now i hope that doesn’t sound mean because it wasn’t meant to, but i feel like i’m missing posts and content from bloggers/people i have a genuine interest in because i’ve followed so many people.
So my fix has been having a massive clear out of followers, a lot of which have been ghost followers or inactive for a while, but also tailoring my following so i can get the most out of it and see that content i enjoy. Going forward i don’t want to feel guilty for not following someone back just because they follow me.
Okay again i feel like i need a disclaimer here, i get comment pods and i get what their aim is but i just think that sometimes it can be false. We are all trying to get a bigger audience for our blogs and we all want more engagement but personally i don’t always think pods are the right way. Luckily i’m in 2 pods that are full of some wonderful bloggers who’s content i genuinely enjoy. I recently left a handful of pods because i didn’t enjoy some of the creators content and i felt like i was giving a false comment just so i could get a comment back on my post. The same goes for bloggers comment on my posts, for example i had someone comment on my post saying they also loved ‘said’ product in a review i wrote too but the thing is i said i hated the product in my review so they blatantly didn’t read the post. There is where my problem lies, if i see a post i like then i’ll comment and interact but i don’t want to feel pressured to comment on something i didn’t like or didn’t relate to me.
The Follow to Unfollow Game / Paid Followers
People who follow me, to then unfollow me when i follow them back I SEE YOU. I have a followers app where i check my social media stats daily and it notifies me on people who do this and it happens daily. It’s not an honest way to gain a following and it’s damn right annoying. The same goes for paid followers/bot follower account. I’m always so sceptical of accounts that have a 10k following when they themselves only follow 100 (unless they are celebs or actual verified accounts), it’s so see through.
Just don’t. It’s pushy and it’s aggravating, sending me an automated dm when i follow you will make me unfollow you. Sorry…
I know there’s nothing i can really do to stop them but GOD they are so annoying aren’t they? This is mainly on Instagram for example i’ll post a photo of makeup and there will be a spam comment saying ‘love your outfit’ … umm? Now i know there are so many bot account out there but more and more i’m seeing actual bloggers use bots. All i can ask is why?
Okay i think i’m all vented out. I hope this isn’t too much of a debbie downer post but i really wanted to share my thoughts. As mentioned i do love blogging but it’s not always cupcakes and rainbows. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know in the comments if you’ve had any blogging pet peeves recently.
